Ice Nymph or Ice Shrimp
This is an experimental fly pattern. I have nerer used it, but I plan to use it this
winter when I go Ice fishing, and again in the spring on a couple rivers. If
you tie this and try it out, let me know the results.
- Mustad 94840 size #14-#20
- Clear glass beads
- Grey or white marabou fibers
- White 6/0 Uni-thread
Take about 3 or 4 small beads and place them on the hook. You will likely need to crimp the barb on the hook to get the beads on. Tie on the thread behind the last bead.
Take a couple strands of marabou, and tie them in behind the last bead. Wind the marabou 3 times, and tie it off. Trim the excess, and add 2 or 3 half hitches to secure the marabou.
Tie in some more marabou between the last bead and the next. Wind the marabou around the shaft 3-4 times and tie it off the same way as the last. Repeat this until all of the gaps between the beads are filled..
Tie off the fly and add a whip finish. Take a piece of velcro and use it to buff the marabou from between the beads.
